what is it?
The Altamont is the wheelset that propelled Boyd Cycling to a major wheel company. Way ahead of it's time when it was released the Altamont received great reviews for the build quality, rim design, and durability. Fast forward to 2023, it's hard to find a good rim brake wheelset anymore. However, we know there is still a demand and still a need to high the highest possible quality alloy wheelset.
We get the email all the time, "I love my rim brake bike. I don't want to move to a different bike, but I want my current wheels to be nicer." Well, we hear you and thanks to the flexibility that in house manufacturing brings, we can produce this model when everyone else has decided to abandon this segment.

Whether you love running tubeless or want to use an inner tube we have you covered. Wheels come pre-taped with tubeless tape and with tubeless valves. Don't want to run tubeless? Simply remove your tubeless valves, the tubeless tapes makes for the best possible rim strip.

When making the best possible wheelset, the front and rear wheels see different stresses. The front can be built to even tension, but the tension difference in the rear suffers because of the cassette. See how we increased the durability, responsiveness, and ride quality.

The Altamont was years in the making. During the development process, Boyd Cycling brought in customized machinery to produce all alloy rims in house. The Altamont is the result of doing this ourselves when outsourcing was no longer an option.
